Summer Time
During the summer season it is easy to become complacent with our religious obligations. With vacations and holidays there is a tendency to forget the essentials of life. A vacation is not an excuse for not attending Mass on Sunday. There are many avenues to finding available churches and Mass times. The parish office can help. The Internet has a few options as well. Remember, that Mass is an obligations and not something we can dismiss. If you can't contact the office or know which towns or cities you'll be near on the weekends, a great service is www.masstimes.org. They remain current.
We have to also be respectful of churches and religious sites. In most of the world, you will not be allowed in a Catholic Church or other religious structures regardless of denomination, without proper attire. At the doors here at St. Peters you will see the signs posted for proper attire. And yes it does matter what you wear to enter the Church. God does care what you wear. One needs to be appropriately dressed to enter a holy place. It seems that only in North America (the U.S. and Canada) that we are able to slip into Church dressed as if going to the beach. Americans are easily noticeable in Europe when we attempt to enter religious shrines and churches in shorts and tank tops. It is not about impressing other people, but showing God that we took the time and effort to prepare to come to worship Him.
