Pentecost Sunday

"When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came form the sky a noise life a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Pentecost

Fifty days after the celebration of the Resurrection on Easter, we celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles. This event is often proclaimed as the "birth" of the Church. It may be better to understand this event as the enabling and empowerment of the disciples of Christ to perform their mission of spreading the Good News of God the Father's love and the salvation He offers to us. The Holy Spirit has the power to transform anyone who allows the Spirit to do so.

For us, Pentecost happens each day. In a special way we recall that event nearly 2000 years ago, but for us the Holy Spirit offers us the "gifts" and the "fruits" of those gifts. Let our hearts and souls be open to the new Pentecost here today.

Easter Season

The Easter Season is a time for rejoicing! During the period of fifty days after Easter Sunday the Church continues to celebrate the saving actions of our Savior, Jesus Christ. In the readings during this period we hear Jesus teaching us what it means to be one of His followers and how to live as His disciples. The teaching is simple and plain. We are to love one another as Jesus has loved us. Yet again, how difficult it is for us to live this way. The difficulty comes from the confusion of how our lives are lived. As we grow in spiritual matters we realize the illusion of so much of our lives. It is then we can simplify our own lives by eliminating those illusions. What we are left with is God's love for us and our love for God. And this is how it should be.
