Rose Colored Vestments! What’s the deal?
The fourth Sunday in Lent and the third Sunday in Advent are days that we wear "rose" colored vestments for Mass. The symbolic use of rose represents "joy" in liturgical preparations. These two special Sundays of the year indicate joyful anticipation of the coming major celebrations. For the third Sunday in Advent we anticipate Christmas, the Nativity of our Lord. The fourth Sunday in Lent anticipates the Easter Resurrection glory. We break out from our Lenten rigors and for a moment rejoice in the coming salvific action of our Lord. We are about halfway through Lent and we need that encouragement and urging to persevere to the end. Hang on to those Lenten penances and persevere to the end!
