Seminarians versus the Priests, Basketball Game

It was a great game. I was able to score a three-point shot! Not bad for an old guy. The purposes of the game are twofold. One was to raise money for the seminarians for a retreat in May 2007. A second purpose was the fraternity building that comes along with playing team sports. Before our "retirement" in 2005, the "Runnin' Revs" played at local elementary schools to foster vocations. We were asked to come out of retirement for this game. Luckily, the injuries were few and we did not have to call in any EMTs.

There was a great turnout of fans and curiosity seekers. The gym at St. Bernard Elementary School was packed with standing room only. Teurlings High provided cheerleaders, a great addition! The gumbo and treats were great! All in all, it was a great time.

The Christmas Season

The glorious Christmas season covers the period from Christmas Eve until the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord in mid-January. During this time we celebrate the birth and youth of Jesus. This time of Jesus' life is mostly hidden from Scripture and leads to much speculation. What we do know is that young Jesus grew in "age," grace" and "wisdom."

For us this is a time for our own reflection on our own relationship with the humanity of Jesus. There is a tendency to constantly focus on His divinity so that a "personal" relationship with the human person of Jesus is neglected. To see Jesus as an intimate friend is necessary for spiritual growth.

Running Revs vs. the Seminarians

The Running Revs Basketball Team, featuring our Fr. Bill Melancon, will reunite after two years to challenge the Diocesan Seminarians. The Game will take place at St. Bernard's Gym in Breaux Bridge. Tip off is at 6:00p. Admission is $1.00 and proceeds go to sending our seminarians on retreat in May of 2007.

Come support our seminarians and our priest.

Fourth Sunday of Advent

Prayer for Week Four of Advent

He shall be great to the ends of the earth; and he shall be the one of peace. Micah 5:4c-5a

(Light all four candles on the Advent Wreath, and pray):

Lord, the shepherds will visit Your this night, yet You are the greatest shepherd of all. You entered our world as an infant just like we do, and you shared in our plight so we can share in your glory. We will kneel before Your manger in humility and awe. Make us worthy to rejoice in Your presence among us. AMEN.

Third Sunday of Advent

Prayer for Week Three of Advent

Rejoice and exult with all your heart…the Lord, your God, is in your midst. Zephaniah 3:14b, 17a

(Light two purple candles and the pink candle and pray):

Renew us in Your love, Lord, for with You we have nothing to fear. You provide light for our darkness and warmth in cold winter air. We sing Your praises for all You have done for us. May we approach this holy Christmas Season with a true spirit of joy and gratitude. AMEN.

Safety Environment Final Recertification

At the Church Hall beginning at 6:00pm.

Tonight we will hold our final re-certification for our employees and volunteers. Remember that everyone who has contact with young people in our parish or school must go through an initial 2 hour training and an annual 1 hour renewal. If you were certified in 2005, you must be recertified before 2007. This will be the last time we offer the training in 2006.

Second Sunday of Advent

Prayer for Week Two of Advent

For God will lead Isreal with joy, in the light of His glory, with the mercy and righteousness that come from him. Baruch 5:9

(Light two purple candles on the wreath, then pray):

Lord, as you come to us once again at Christmas, you invite us to come to you as well. Soften our hearts to recognize the areas in life where we need to grow. Smooth over the craggy peaks and deep crevasses that keep us apart from you. May we seek you above everything else and give you to others as the best gift of all this Christmas. AMEN.
